At the gateway to the county Welshpool, an historic border town is situated in the beautiful upper Severn Valley. The rolling green countryside is dotted with sheep, castles and pretty timber framed houses built years ago from the famous Montgomeryshire oak said to have been the backbone of the early English Navy.

Dominating the town is Powys Castle, which has commanded the region for almost 500 years.

Once owned by the Earls of Powys, the Royal Oak Hotel and Restaurant has provided the best fare, ales, comfort and good cheer to local and travelling folk for over 350 years.

The Price family have continued that tradition for 3 generations and along with the staff welcome you every day of the year to:

The popular Oak and Ostler bars where you can sample traditional cask ales and enjoy good food.

The Acorn Café Bar and Restaurant serving traditional, lighter meals throughout the day complemented by a selection of fine wines.

The Powys Suite with Conference, banqueting and boardroom facilities for up to 200 people as well as a professional catering service for weddings and receptions.
